RE: TVs in Jayco 32ss

O have a 30 and 37 westinghouse which are three years old. They work as well as my Vizio and Toshiba and Samsung. I Agree that it is in your settings or a defective set. Even a cheap Polaroid is visible at angles but does require some adjustmet up and down which is easy for me as I have it on a swing arm. Good luck.

RE: RV CAMPSITE SUGGESTION

Well that proves the point of learning something new. I was unaware of the "newest" option. That will make surfing the site much easier. I also learned a lot today about backing the toad. Thanks.

RE: RV CAMPSITE SUGGESTION

I am not sure he would. Many of us monitor the general class C but don't go to the others unless we are looking for something specific so I suspect he would get his best response right here but I agree that reminding us that the specific forums provide good info is a good thing so thanks Bumpy. My only point was that this is a great forum with great people providing terrific info and we have room for those who are new and not sophisticated in their computer skills.

RE: nervous pullling toad

I take my Prius along on a tow dolly. I sure enjoy having it and it is nice to have my own car and not have to hassle with rentals. Enterprise was great the several times I used them before towing. Came to the campground in the mountains of Santa Fe and picked me up and returned me when we dropped off the car. It is a bit of a hassle hooking up the tow dolly but I am getting good at it so it gets easier and easier. Anybody out there who has found an easy way to hook up car safety chains without going under the car?

RE: RV CAMPSITE SUGGESTION

One of the things I love about my motorhome experience is the people I meet. I also really enjoy this forum and all the useful information and just fun interactions with people I will probably never meet. Normally this crowd is eager to help and very tolerant of those with less information than they. In this case I was surprised at the reactions to the new poster who used the caps. Obviously this poster didn't understand the meaning of the caps or perhaps where to post. He just wanted some insight on a campground. In unusual form we responded with more form than substance which is unusual. Maybe the high gas prices have us jumpy. At any rate I wanted to share a great experience on a campground and will do it here and post later on the appropriate forum. Pontiac Lakes State Park in Michigan. Not far from Detroit. Wow! What a nice place with lovely sites. Stayed there during the PGA Championship last week. Twenty minutes from Silverdome where they parked cars. I had been in a State Park in Traverse City that was packed and very little screening between sites so this was a pleasant surprise. Happy traveling and thanks for sharing all the great info.

RE: We took the Plunge!

We are planning a trip from WI to Vancouver in Jan/Feb 2010 for Olympics. We figure the only sensible route is Hwy 10 to LA and then north. I have driven cars in the Rockies in winter and it was not easy so the motorhome with toad just seemed to be the wrong decision in winter. I assume that in areas with consistent sub freezing temps you will find no campgrounds open although I have winter camped in WI State Parks in winter. Plowed sites and electric. Winter water at one station and pit toilets but no dump stations so portable dump in pit toilet which was not real fun. Advantage is we had a giant state park all to ourselves.

RE: Attention B+ Owners (On Ford & GM Chassis)

1. E-450 2004 V-10 2. BT Cruiser 3. 28 ft 4.14,000 5. add about 1200 6. tow a Prius on dolly 2900 car. 7.55-60 now was 70-75 8. 11.5 without tow 9. 10-11 without tow and about 1.5 less with tow-very little genny use. Slower speeds makes big difference and when I tow Prius I easily make up the less mpg by driving it instead of moho for on the road side trips.

RE: MPG test results, what works and what doesn't

I have reduced my driving speed from about 70 to about 55. I don't work it on the hills. I have gone from about 8 to 8.5 to 10 to 11 depending on the terrain and City driving. Right lane freeway steady 55 is best. A couple of miles per gallon improvement on an 8mpg is 25% which is pretty good. Best thing though is the driving is so easy and much less bumpy. I arrive so much more relaxed and not subtantially later. Now really want to save real gas-drive a toad that gets good mpg as you will drive many more miles in the toad. I tow a Prius on a dolley and if I drive the way I am now driving the motorhome I average around 55 in summer months. Winter is less as heater works off gas but air runs on the electric. Changing our driving habits by planning even short trips around town better, walking more, using public transport when available and inexpensive may be tougher than quitting smoking but if we want to save fuel that is the best way.

RE: Class A Mattress

Visco elastic (tempurpedic knockoff) from Verlo. Even better than my temper in the house and my very expensive stearns and foster at cottage. Sure wish I would have found it first.

RE: Electric outlet question

I agree it sounds very much like gfi issue. Look around any where you have water in the coach for gfi. I have gfi under the cabinets in the kitchen area and all the time I used that outlet I didn't notice until I was working on the floor and looked up and saw the buttons. I thought glad to know that as I would have been looking all over and only checking the one in the bath. Good luck.

RE: using a gps system in a class C

Garmin Nuvii 660 works great and just sits on the dash. On a few rare occassions in did give me a longer route so it doesn't hurt to review the route with a map.

RE: E450 Cruise Control

My 04 seems to do all the things described when in a less than level area no matter towing or not but a bit more dramatic with toad. It is not much different with my Grand Cherokee, Santa Fe or Prius. All react about the same when losing speed on a hill so I get used to disengaging the cruise in those situations. Truly many of us will change our driving habits with fuel price increasing. I will be driving about 10 mph slower. I just took a 200 mile run and drove 55-60. I arrived about 20 minutes later than normal and more rested as it was easy driving. I improved my mpg from 8 to 11 by accelerating more slowly, taking a couple of inclines at 50 instead of 65, and using a half tank of gas instead of full. I am treating it as if tank is 30 gallongs instead of 55, At 8 lbs per gallon that reduces weight and who doesn't stop every 300 miles. At that rate I am saving about 37% and the recent acceleration of gas price has been about 46%. Hey net increase of 9% and I am not bouncing and charring myself and passenger around. Now for those bilstiens to make life perfect.

RE: Rialta

Yup the old Renault engine was quite the thing. I had the early Centauri which was a van version of the La Sharo. It had a small area of standup room in back with nice jacknife sofa. It was fun for kids and us. Got great mpg. However try driving much over 60 and it strained. Was great in snow with offset rear tires and the manual transmission. I walked up lookout Mtn in the winter when nobody had anybody had any success getting to the top. The engine blew at 80000miles. Later I bought a used LaSharo with the turbocharge. Slightly more powerful. All of these were money pits and you are right not comfortable for sleeping. I have 28ft BT. Love the rear queen with my tempurpedic. The cost of fuel is a small problem compared to the cost of not enjoying the vehicle when stopped or just cruising. I looked at Rialta's and when I got inside I came to my senses. I tow a Prius and safe fuel costs that way but give me a moho that I can sleep comfortably in all night. Bascially I say sometimes good economic decisions are really bad ones. All decisions must be made looking at the big picture. Now if we have huge gas lines then I am afraid the BT becomes a guest cottage and the Prius gets the nod.

RE: Help from BT Cruiser owners

I have a 2005 on 2004 chassis. Queen in back. One small slide. Dinette and barrel chair. I have driven it to all coasts and Canada. Generally pleased. I am always amazed at some of the construction when I look behind things but they are easily improved and I guess common to most RV's. Have a friend with a 2006 25ft mine is 28ft and he had two slides and liked it very much but wanted a bed in the back so traded. I replaced the mattress with a visco elastic and removed the tv from the upper compartment and installed an lcd on swing arm. Put doors over the space vacated by TV for great storage. The unit has ample storage and plenty of power from the 450. I can get 10-11 if I drive 55-60, drops off to 8 at 70. I pull a Prius on a tow dolly. Go for it.

RE: Anyone know short-term storage in SE Wisconsin?

In Janesville you can rent large storage individual garages by the month. Inside and secure. I have my 28 ft motorhome with tow dolly attached in ohe so pretty good size and new larger ones nearly done. 200 a month. This may be more than you want but would be very safe and I suspect available as demand is more in winter. Janesville is on I 90 about hour and a half from Chicago and southwest of Milwaukee about one hr.

RE: Painting plywood floor

Laminate is great and comes in so many styles. The self locking is great and installation is so easy. I also found some vinyl that looks like wood and comes in six inch by three foot pieces with sticky strips to allow you to lay a floating vinyl floor. I got it at Home Depot and used for a home office that has large rugs but also enters from garage so takes the abuse from outside wet and dirt. It was quick to install and looked fine for vinyl. Not wood or laminate but quiet and very functional. Friend redid his BT cruiser with it and it looked great. Cork is great as it is functional and oh so quiet. So many options these days in light weight, good looking and easy install.

RE: Generator running....no power to microwave?

Thanks Mark. When it comes to the electronics I feel really helpless. Found the circuit breaker on generator by accident while boondocking in Indiana one night last year. Found the fuse for slide in battery compartment this winter by searching this forum. Still looking for my slideout motor and hope I don't need to find it. You could tell me anything and I would start looking for it. A typo is a relief. Great to have so many folks to help me learn my way around.

RE: Generator running....no power to microwave?

Thanks Mark. Now my stupid question. Where is the EFI breaker and what does it look like. What does EFI stand for. Thanks for the education.

RE: Generator running....no power to microwave?

Ok I am now confused. I understand the GFI-ground fault interuptor- and often have tripped those and forget about them and check everything else first. I would point out they also wear out and replacement is easier than most things. I look at breaker boxes and fuses and get more confused. So is the EFI something different or is it just the newest tech replacing the GFI or are they the same and referred to interchangably and I am the last to learn this.

RE: Hybrid Rv's

Love my Prius. Have had it for a little over three years and have 75,000 miles of care free fuel efficient driving. Average about 45 city/hwy combined without taking any precautioned to improve fuel efficiency. If I drive carefully I can boost it by about 5mph combined. I have driven to get the best mileage. Drove 210 miles of normal highway but never over 55mph and remained in electric mode as much as possible. Arrived about 20 minutes later than normal and got 78 mpg. In winter the heater runs off gas engine so reduces mileage so it is best to heat and then turn it off. In summer the air impacts the power just a little but no impact on mileage as runs off electric. Winter driving is easy and traction is good. I tow on dolly without problem. The misinfo being passed around is fascinating and I get it forwarded to me by friends all the time. Daughter has one in California and loves it. I do love the silent operation and general comfort and handling and truly enjoy the fact that even with $3.40 a gallon gas I am operating on prices of 25 years ago and when adjusted for inflation the cheapest per mile operating expense I have ever known. You are correct the synergy drive is quite incredible. Now in Europe you have a switch so you can operate on all electric and then use gas to recharge when necessary and coming soon a plug-in option. It is nor available here because of our regs regarding battery warranty. If the American auto makers would spend half the time they do starting rumors on the Prius and instead develop true energy efficiency instead of these little improvements they dare call hybrids they would be competing better. When my second car is ready for junk heap and won't be for a long time as we drive the Prius all the time and second sits I will replace it with a second Prius. As long as I have the Prius I can afford to fuel my E-450.
